Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This class will discuss the most important issues of public international law on a selective basis. Ample time will be devoted to legal topics which are central to understanding the characteristics of international law: treaties, custom, general principles, resolutions of international organizations; the relationship between international law and national legal systems; problems of statehood like state succession, jurisdiction, nationality and diplomatic protection; principles of relations between subjects of international law, in particular, the use of force and its limitation; state responsibility issues. The course will be based on discussing case excerpts which have to be read and studied by the students in advance.
Assessment and permitted materials
1. Written examinations. There will be two exams held which will be worth 70% of the final course mark. One exam has to receive a positive grade.
2. Class participation. This will include demonstrated preparation for class and participation in discussions and will be worth 30% of the final course mark.

Gaining of knowledge in the field of international law, its relationship to national law as well as its connection with international relations.
Examination topics
