Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar deals with the legal process of the prohibition of sexual or sexualised violence in armed conflicts. Beginning with the first prohibitions in the natural law doctrine of the early modern period, the development of the prohibition of rape under international law will be analysed in different stages by students. The focus is on the 19th and 20th centuries. Sexual violence as a forbidden act of war in international humanitarian law, in connection with war crimes and in the classification as Crime against Humanity and genocidal act are only some of the aspects to be dealt with by students in this seminar.
Assessment and permitted materials
The graded assignment consists of a seminar paper (25-30 pages, 50 000 characters of text only, including footnotes and spaces), oral participation and presentation of a topic during the block seminar. In this session the result of the own work should be presented and discussed with a thesis paper ( about 7 p.) and, if necessary, an extract from the source. The final version of your seminar paper has to be handed in digitally on the learning platform Moodle and in duplicate (double-sided, not stapled, plus the completed forms "Rules of Good Scientific Practice" and, if applicable, "Application for a licence to practise medicine") to the secretariat of the Institute for Legal and Constitutional History by February 26, 2021.Submission of the thesis paper for your seminar paper: A first version of the seminar paper with a topic structure (approx. 7 p.) is to be submitted via Moodle by Moon, 4 January 2021, 23.59 hrs, which serves as the basis for the block seminar. This version will not be graded.
