Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to impart theoretical knowledge about the communication process and communication techniques in conflict situations. This includes knowledge of the pitfalls of communication in general and specific communication patterns in conflict situations, as well as knowledge of escalating and de-escalating communication techniques in conflict resolution. This also allows students to reflect on their own communication behaviour and expand their own communication repertoire.
The course covers the following topics: Fundamentals and theories of the communication process; function of communication; aspects of non-linguistic communication; forms and influence of language in (conflict) communication; importance of attitude and empathy in communication; authenticity in communication; tools for communication: interventions in conflict resolution for the conflict resolver and for the conflict parties.
Further contents will be orientated towards the interests of the students within the framework of the time available.

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentation of selected aspects and theories of individual communication (the topics are given, literature will be provided), design of a PP presentation or a film, design of a handout optional; oral participation

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
