Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will focus on the core question of legal philosophy: What is law? What are its essential characteristics? And how does law differ from other social and cultural entities such as morality, politics, conventions, religion, etc.?
A new book manuscript will form the basis of the course in line with the aim of combining research and teaching. This offers the opportunity to participate directly in the acquisition of knowledge through discussion and criticism and to learn from it.
However, the course will also consider other authors who have understood law as a relation.

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentations, participation, short reflective texts, written examination.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

2 reflection texts (approx. 3 pages), 33% each.
Presentation (voluntary): Structured presentation which conveys the content of texts in a comprehensible way and/or formulates meaningful questions and criticism.
Students who give a presentation only have to hand in one reflection text.
Attendance, participation and discussion in the course, 33%.
