Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to provide law students with knowledge in the field of crime prevention. The main content of the course includes (but is not limited to!) the:
- Definition and levels of crime prevention
- Empirical findings on the general and specific preventive effect of punishments
- Challenges of preventing extremism.

The understanding of the material is to be strengthened through increased opportunities for discussion and questions. With this in mind, aspects of crime prevention are first explained by the course instructor and guest lecturers before active discussion rounds take place. Participants are expected to prepare for the respective units by studying the assigned literature on their own and to actively participate in the course by contributing to the discussion.

The exact program of the course and relevant literature will be announced in the first unit.

Assessment and permitted materials

The performance assessment is based on
- oral discussion contributions in the classroom units: 40%
- a final written test: 60%.

By attending the first unit, you confirm your registration for the course; you will be deregistered if you fail to attend without an excuse.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements: attendance, participation, taking the final exam

This is a course with compulsory attendance, one unexcused absence is permitted. More than one unexcused absence will result in a negative grade.

Assessment criteria: participation (40%), final written test (60%)

To achieve a good grade, however, it is not automatically the frequency, but primarily the quality of the contributions that are decisive.

Examination topics

Course content (lectures by the course instructor and guest lectures) as well as the literature provided.
