Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Electronic communication networks and services ensure the transmission of signals via cables, radio, fiber optics or other electromagnetic devices. They are the backbone of the internet and the information society. Without you there is no access to internet platforms, no e-commerce, no WhatsApp communication. In the context of international regulations, the regulation of these networks and services is largely determined by European law.

On December 18, 2019, a new “European Code for Electronic Communications” (Directive (EU) 2018/1972) was adopted at European level, which would have to be implemented in national law by December 21, 2020. The Austrian transposition - a new telecommunications law - will be intensively discussed.
The aim of the course is to provide the students with a guide through the basics and essential provisions of international as well as (current and future) European regulation.

Based on the materials made available to the students, the course presents and discusses the essential provisions.

Schweighofer: International, ICANN, Internet Governance
