Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to give an overview of the existing theoretical explanations of the existence and organization of the international firm:

Hymer and Kindlerberger theory, diversification theory, product life cycle theory, appropriation and transaction cost theory, internationalization theory, eclectic theory, network theory, resource-based and organizational capabilities theory, institutional theory, power theory, stakeholder view of MNC and real option perspective.

The class is mainly based on lectures and literature discussion.

Assessment and permitted materials

Exam for which you have to register separately via univis (look in Cluster WIWI Prüfungen).
Update due to Covid-19:
Online exam (40 MC questions - 2 open-ended questions)
Turnitin and checkup exams via video conference on selected students will be used to ensure the fairness and quality of the exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Evaluation - Total points (100)
a. Positive evaluation of the exam (min. 50 %)
b. Bonuspoints:
(A) Participation of public lectures - (5 points or 10 points) http://im.univie.ac.at/windsperger/im-public-lectures/?no_cache=1
5 points for at least 3 times participation!
10 points for at least 5 times participation!
(B) Essay (max. 15 points) (5 pages without references; font size 12, 1.5 line spacing) - upload on MOODLE

DEADLINE: Please upload the essay on Moodle by the end of June!!! Essays submitted later will not be considered in the final course evaluation.
