Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This class provides an introduction to the economic analysis of the law in a non-technical way. It covers “standard” and “behavioural” law and economics. It is accessible for lawyers and economists alike.
Although it is a „lecture“, I hold this class in a very interactive „seminar-like“ manner.
I provide literature before and after the classes that deepen the understanding of the issues covered.
Subjects covered: The reason of/for rules, Theory of the State & the problem of social order, The Economics of Property Rights, Incentives & Punishment, Contracts & Theory of the firm, Dispute Resolution & Litigation.
The class will be held in English.

Assessment and permitted materials

Grading: Based on a small test at the end of the semester. Students will have to answer two out of four questions (or, in case shorter questions, three out of six or four out of eight, ie one half of the given questions) in a written exam, held during normal class hours.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Grading: Based on a small test at the end of the semester. Students will have to answer two out of four questions in a written exam, held during normal class hours.

Examination topics

The final exam covers only the material discussed in class.
