Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course aims at introducing the students to the basic contents of macroeconomics. By the end of the course, students are expected to have acquired a basic understanding of what factors drive economic growth, what causes business cycle fluctuations, how the financial sector operates, and how nominal and real exchange rates are determined in global markets.
The course consists of five main building blocks:

1. Macroeconomic Accounts
2. Economic Growth
3. Business Cycles
4. Financial Sector (if time permits)
5. Open Economy and Exchange Rates (if time permits)

The lecture comprises 4 hours per week covering mainly theory and examples. There will be an additional tutorial, where practical exercises are discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

The evaluation consists of following components: weekly quizzes, , mid-term, final.

Exam dates:
- Midterm: April 26, 13:15 - 16:45
- Final: June 27, 16:45 - 18:15

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The evaluation consists of the following components: midterm exam, final exam, problem sets and online quizzes (all but the last closed-book).

40% midterm exam
40% final exam
20% online quizzes

The minimal requirement for a passing grade is to achieve 50% in total.
