Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course will cover main topics related to environmental issues and climate change. It will introduce key concepts, methods and models to analyze environmental problems, as well as optimal exploitation/conservation of natural resources. Students will be able to apply these models and methods to current policy questions, such as carbon pricing, tradable emissions permits, sustainable development, climate agreements, overfishing, etc. The course material will be presented in a lecture and supplemented by practical exercises and case studies. Case studies will be presented by groups of 3-4 students.
Assessment and permitted materials
The final grade is composed of the results from the final exam (40%), case-study presentation (30%), mid-term exam (30%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students are advised to refresh their knowledge of basic mathematics for economists. Acquaintance with computational software, e.g. Matlab, Maple, Mathematica, is a plus but not a prerequisite
