Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims: Students become familiar with some basic empirical facts about economic growth and business cycles as well as with the most popular models used in modern macroeconomics to study these phenomena. They will be able to use and modify these models so as to formally analyze questions of macroeconomic relevance.
Contents: The course deals with advanced methods and models that are used to study economic growth and the business cycle including neoclassical and endogenous growth models, real business cycle models, and New Keynesian models.
Methods: The course material is first explained in a presentation by the lecturers. Weekly exercises help to get practice in using the presented theories and methods..

Assessment and permitted materials

Written final exam (50%), two written multiple-choice tests during the semester (15% each), and homework exercises (20%).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

For a positive grade one needs at least 50% of all points that can be earned.
