Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course provides an introduction to the most common statistical methods that are used in modern economics. In particular, the course will introduce students to the concept of linear regression analysis discussing how to set up and estimate linear regression models, and how to conduct statistical inference with them. In doing so, the course will provide an understanding of the notion of `causal’ inference and, more generally, guidelines for the interpretation of empirical regression results and the corresponding hypothesis tests. The course will also treat implementation issues related to regression analysis such as misspecification or omitted variables. The methods are illustrated by empirical applications in Stata and R.
Assessment and permitted materials
Homework assignments (total of 20%), written tests (80%). The homework assignments can be done in groups of up to three.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
To pass, students need to achieve at least 50% of the maximum achievable score in total.
Examination topics
All topics covered in class.
