Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar addresses Bachelor students who would like to deal with the management of non-profit organizations (NPOs) in a practice-oriented manner. In cooperation with the director of the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM-Museumsverband) we will treat the topic in a practical manner.NPOs are cooperations operating between state and market economy. The economic importance of NPOs and the number of employees is steadily increasing, whereas the awareness of their specific management challenges is often neglected. Therefore, the non-awarness of these structural differences can lead to problems within NPOs.In order to pay attantion to these management specifics we will first provide a general theoretical introduction to the management of NPOs. Followed by concrete examples within the KHM-Museumsverband. Secondly, following the theoretical part the students will deal with their chosen topic and tranfer the management specifics in cooperation with representatives of the KHM-Museumsverband to their specific research question.Participants of the course will learn to apply the theoretical concepts and methods of economics and social sciences to a new field. In addition, they will work in small groups in cooperation with the Kunsthistorisches Museum on a specific project, which they will supervise independently.
