Aims, contents and method of the course

The Master's Thesis Conversatorium serves to present, discuss and comment on master's theses.

The aim of this course is to prepare students for academic presentations and to support them in their master thesis. Students present and defend their master thesis results, which also document the progress of their respective master thesis. The students' presentations allow them to receive feedback. Discussions with other students who are writing their master's thesis are intended to support them in writing their own master's thesis.
Topics and content to be included in one's own master's thesis are presented in front of other students, and other students' presentations are commented on and discussed. One focus is on the achievement and implementation of learned skills from the study in general and from the subject in which the Conversatorium is attended in particular. Another focus is the digitalization and the correct use of IT, related to the project and implementation of the preparation of the master's thesis.
A prerequisite for attending the MA Conversation is the submission of a proposal that has been accepted by the supervisor.

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentations of own results and about the progress of the master's thesis and defense of the same in the subsequent discussion;
Active participation in discussions;
Attendance;

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Prerequisite for participation is an already existing supervision commitment for the master thesis!
Compulsory attendance at all dates!
The written work will be evaluated according to the common criteria (compliance with good scientific practice).

In the presentation, the task, method and results must be clearly elaborated. It should be recognizable for experts what the independent research performance consists of. Nevertheless, the presentation should also be comprehensible for non-experts (e.g. listeners who work on completely different topics and with different methods).

The grading scale is as follows: >=50% - <63%: Genügend; >=63% - <75%: Befriedigend; >=75% - <88%: Gut; >=88% - 100%: Sehr Gut.
