Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
What are the central causes, phenomena, and consequences of economic inequality? This course presents alternative concepts of measuring inequality and discusses related challenges. It introduces students to a formal, rigorous study of inequality and how it relates to growth, business cycles, monetary and fiscal policy, or labor markets. In computer sessions, students learn how to use real-world data to empirically implement what they learnt in class. They are equipped with the tools necessary to critically, but constructively reflect on the topic.
Assessment and permitted materials
The course language is English. The final grade will be based exclusively on (i) two empirical group projects (15% each), (ii) one midterm on April xx (30%), and a final on June xx (40%), 2020.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Fifty percent of all possible points are required for passing this course.
Examination topics
All topics covered in class or in the required reading material as well as all exercises are relevant for the exams.
