Aims, contents and method of the course

The automation of their business processes through workflow-driven applications supported by Workflow Management Systems (WfMS) constitutes an essential challenge for enterprises nowadays. The course will introduce basic concepts of developing such workflow driven applications at a theoretical and practical level, including practical exercises with selected systems and tools. In detail:

- Basic concepts of workflow technologies and workflow-driven applications
- Process modeling languages and techniques, workflow patterns
- Architectures of Workflow Management Systems
- Interoperability in WfMS
- Development of workflow-driven applications
- Workflows and Web Services

Assessment and permitted materials

- practical and theoretical exercises
- participation and discussion within the course
- written exam

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- Knowledge on basic architecture and components of a WfMS
- Knowledge on typical application areas of WfMS
- Skills in modeling workflows and implementing them within a WfMS
- Knowledge and understanding of basic workflow technologies

Assessment:
* 45% exercices
* 45% written exam
* 10% discussion
