Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

After successful completion of the course, students are able to analyze and critically reflect on the current developments in Informatics and their effects on and interplay with human life and, hopefully, have both commitment and ideas to influence the future development.
The students develop a scenario and case study-related understanding of digital humanism (as a description of the complex interaction of technology and people in the mirror of current, e.g. socio-technological, developments) through seminar topics worked on in groups and exchange with other groups, accompanied by lectures by the teachers and further Literature. See also the Vienna Manifesto on Digital Humanism and info about the related workshop in April 2019: www.informatics.tuwien.ac.at/dighum).

Assessment and permitted materials

The course consists of 3 parts:
(a) Lectures
(b) Students work in groups of 3. In interactive sessions they will present their intermediate and final results,
(c) Workshops Academic Research and Writing.
Attendance to all meetings of the course is mandatory. The LV starts with “classical” lectures, then students work on their projects. There will be two intermediate presentations of the group works, and a final seminar. This process is accompanied by workshops on academic research and writing, which offers an additional layer of reflection on the group work project.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

50% final report
40% presentations and intermediate hand-ins
10% active participation

If you are absent on more than three meetings, you will fail the course.
