Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course introduces master students into the rules of scientific publishing with the focus on computer science.
Topics include: Issues in scientific writing (authorship, reproducible research); Preparing a scientific manuscript for high-impact conferences and journals; Conference presentation; How to do a peer review; How to search in the literature.

Assessment and permitted materials

The evaluation of your performance will be based on three parts:
1) written paper review
2) written test
3) oral paper presentation.

You will be assigned a current paper of computer science research for which you need to prepare a written review. You will choose a second paper which you will present in an oral presentation. Furthermore, there will be a written test on the topics of the lecture.

You can obtain up to 40 points on the written test, up to 30 points for the review of your paper and up to 30 points for the paper presentation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular attendance is mandatory in order to pass the course.

The grading scale for the course will be:
1: at least 87.5%
2: at least 75.0%
3: at least 60.0%
4: at least 40.0%
