Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this class, we will discuss everyday-life and Israel-related topics in simple to intermediate Hebrew. The participants may select their favourite subjects from a larger pool of suggestions in the first course unit.

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance (at most three absences in the course of the entire term)

Continuous and prepared classroom participation (50 per cent)

Final oral exam (50 per cent)

Grading scheme:

91-100 per cent: 1 (excellent)

81-90 per cent: 2 (good)

71-80 per cent: 3 (fair)

60-70 per cent: 4 (sufficient)

0-59 per cent: 5 (fail)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Departing from the course participants' level of Hebrew, their listening comprehension and speaking skills will gradually increase. By means of real-life topics, the students will expand their vocabulary and recapitulate essential grammar and syntax. Moreover, the knowledge of everyday-life in contemporary Israel should be deepened.

Examination topics

The course starts with a non-assessed classification test to get a clearer picture of the participants' actual level of Hebrew. The test results will determine the language requirements of the selected topics. Hence, participation in the first unit is of utmost significance. An information sheet uploaded to Moodle contains important vocabulary, characteristic phrases and background information to facilitate preparation. The weekly topic will be approached in class by plenum discussions, group tasks, role plays and short listening comprehension exercises.
