Aims, contents and method of the course

In the course of its existence Judaism was exposed both in the diaspora and at home to foreig cultural and religious influences. How Jewish culture and religion responded to these influences coined Jewish identity and influences Judaism not only as of today. This seminar will study the mechanisms of Jewish acculturation and the preservation of Jewish cultural identity by way of selected examples from antiquity.
