Aims, contents and method of the course

The collections of the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum contain unique items which illustrate how the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Judaism were influenced by other ancient cultures. After a survey of the ancient cultures of importance for ancient Judaism selected items on exhibit in the Museum will be discussed. In this way and based on the exhibits in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, this course will introduce you to the cultures in the enviroment of Ancient Judaism and will demonstrate how these cultures influeced Ancient Judaism.
