Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The persecution and rejection of Jews and Judaism is not an invention of modern times. It begins in Hellenistic times with work of Manetho. A long list of pagan Greek and Latin authors as well as Christian, Muslim and secular literatures attest to the popularity of antisemitism. Jews suffered from hatred and persecution from (Christian) antiquity until today. This lecture class is not interested in surveying the history of antisemitism but engages with the ideological history of this hatred. It perceives antisemitism as a religious ´phenomenon that expresses itself differently in the various cultures of the world and in the epochs of its history.
