Aims, contents and method of the course
Already in antiquity, Jewish literature developed in a discourse with and in interpretation of earlier authoritative Literature. In its interpretative approach Judaism was influenced by the interpretative strategies of other ancient cultures. By way of this interpretative and intercultural discourse ancient Judaism was able to develop key components of its cultural memory and religion. As today, Jewish identity was formed in interpretation of authoritative literature in antiquity.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The seminar will introduce into the different interpretative genres and approaches of ancient Judaism and will investigate their hermeneutic functions.
