Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture provides an overview of the theories and methods applied in Egyptian archaeology. We will use examples from excavations, where also members of staff of the University of Vienna have been involved and discuss important topics and archaeological evidence from Settlements, cemeteries and cult places. We will also include examples from the history of archaeological research as well as from cutting-edge modern research in Egypt .
In the exercices the application of the methods will be trained, including identification, documentation and description of finds.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment of the lectures will be done via a written exam (40%) at the end of the semester. The practical work will be assessed via smaller assisgnments and participation (30%) as well as a brief essay (30%).

for BA Egyptology: STEOP completed.
for EC: mandatory modul: Overview Egypt

Examination topics

The exams will include materials and topics covered in the lectures and practical part.
