Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The wisdom literature of ancient Judaism documents the religious philosopy of ancient Israel. The apocalypses of ancient Judaism provide evidence, how Jews tried to overcome cultural and historical crises by way of eschatological thought. Although these two bodies of ancient Jewish literature are seemingly unrelated, ancient Jewish wisdom literature is one of the roots of apocalypticism. In this Privatissimum, we will read selected texts from the Hebrew Bible and the Qumran library, which show how the problem of theodicy provoked apocalyptic thought in ancient Judaism.
