Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In antiquity, the question of what the future will bring was as essential as it is today. Even more crucial was to determine what God or the gods wanted from their people. To answer both questions, different forms of divination were used. This course will introduce to the different forms of communication between the human and the divine realms in the ancient Israelite and Jewish cultures. Aside from biblical texts, special attention will be given to cultural environments of Israel and Judah as well as to ancient Jewish non-biblical sources.
