    Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture gives an overview of the High and Late Middle Ages from an archaeological perspective. After phases of transformations and new formations in the late Middle Ages and the time of transition about 1500, caused in particular by the invention of printing and the Reformation, a "new era" began that continues to the 21. century. The Reformation and Counter-Reformation and the 30 Years' War in the 16th and 17th centuries , resp. the globalization and the industrialization in the 19th century are determinant. The 20th century is characterized by the two world wars and the Cold War with countless internment camps around the world. The relevance and tasks of archaeology in the 21st century will also be discussed.Via powerpoint presentations (provided on Moodle) the students receive basic information concerning the lecture. In addition, bibliographical references are given for follow-up work or as preparation for the written exam (Klausur) in the last lecture unit.
