Aims, contents and method of the course

Bavli Hagigah from 11b onward. The text deals in the main with the esoteric interpretation of Genesis 1 and Ezekekiel 1 and the dangers connected with it. Central in the chapter is also a cycle of stories about Elisha ben Abuya, also known as Aher, "the other".

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular active participation including the preparation of the text.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Getting familiar with the language and literary character of the Talmud and some of its central doctrines.

Examination topics

Common reading, translation and discussion of the selected text.
