Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The goal of this class is to gain insight into the history and epistemology of international Egyptian archaeology and to learn how these have shaped our understanding of ancient Egyptian civilization, especially on the background of modern historical developments. In order to achieve this, we will examine scholars from different countries and traditions, e.g. in Great Britain, France, USA, Germany and Austria.

Students will regularly read texts and discuss them in class. They will also prepare short assignments. The marking criteria will be based on the quality of the class participation (40%) and of the assignments (2 x 30%).
