Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the first part, current theories and methods of analysis in settlement archaeology will be presented (e.g. formation processes, taphonomy, dirt paradigm, structured depositions, Pompeii-premise, palimpsest, form and function of buildings, etc.). In the second part some analyses will be discussed using original excavation material and already published settlements. In the third part, students will have to do an analysis on their own using excavation data provided.

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation and discussion; short final paper (analysis of a case study with written interpretation); written final exam.
