The verrigated landscape of Western Sicily has been a focal point for human habitation, movement and interaction for thousands of years. In this time, the environment has undergone significant environmental and often anthropogenically driven change.

During this excursion, students will have a chance to visit some of the key inland and coastal sites in western Sicily, from the Paeleolithic to Modern Historic periods, with a focus on the changing landscape of western Sicily between the Later Bronze Age and beginning of the Roman period.

Students will have an oppertunity to:
Visit key sites and landscapes in the region.
Discuss the archaeological and environmental context at each location.
Gain a greater understanding of the development of archaeological and environmental landscapes of western Sicily at different points in time.

Students will be expected to:
Select an archaeological site from the itinerary.
Develop and present a synopsis of the area on site.
