Aims, contents and method of the course

Overview of the process of formation of urban settlements in the entire ancient Near East from South Mesopotamia, where the first city emerged, to North Syria, the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written test: 20 questions, each worth 5 points.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Marks: 0-52 = insufficient/ 53-65 = sufficient/ 66-77 = satisfactory/ 78-90 = good/ 91-100 = very good

Examination topics

Questions will verge both on the theoretical discourse on the Urban Revolution and the related phenomenon as well as different examples of urban settlements discussed in class.
