Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Written 90 minutes exam in the class-room (no multiple choice!).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Familiarity with specific issues, theories, narratives, debates, sources, and methods in contemporary history; ability to engage critically with research debates in historical scholarship. At least 50% of the maximum score is required to pass the test.
Examination topics
The material of the lecture and compulsory literature. Slides and compulsory reading will be provided on Moodle.

Contents:
The lecture provides introductory information about the subject of contemporary history at the University of Vienna. What is contemporary history, who does contemporary history, how does the subject fit into the field of history and related disciplines, which theoretical and methodological approaches are important? Furthermore, access to sources and archives will be presented and examples of important topics in contemporary history will be presented. The detailed program will be presented at the beginning of the course.
Methods: Lecture with shorter interactive components (answering questions, literature review, discussion).
