Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This is an in-depth module accompanying the lecture “Introduction to Global History and Global Studies” (070013 VO) in which various subfields of global history writing are introduced and discussed. Students are invited to attend both courses concurrently as they complement each other.Themes include the global histories of specific fields such as migration, development, or communication; the global histories of specific epochs such as the Middle Ages or the Age of Revolutions; and the global histories of specific regions or continents such as Africa or Asia. The class consists of readings of key monographs and articles as exemplary case studies how global history writing can be practiced. The sessions entail various formats practicing reading and presentation skills, such as group discussions and roundtables on the assigned readings. There will also be space to discuss the individual surveys of specific fields of global history which students will produce toward the end of the semester.
