This class will provide a thematic introduction to different approaches and topics of global and/ or world history. It consists of a lectures, each held by experts from different fields of study sharing the couriosty to contribute with their insights to the Viennese global history approach. The lecture classes with its different topics are supported with bibliographical references on related literature (texts on Moodle). After introductory talks, the related theme of global history will be shortly discussed.

Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
This is a lecture class. Students do not need to register for it. Weekly attention is not mandatory but highly recommended.
Every class deals with a separate topic. Further readings can be accessed on Moodle.
There exist two options of examination. A written one at June 30, 2015 OR an individual presentation on June 26, 2015.
Details about content of exams and grading policy will be provided in class.
The written exam poses ten questions based on the lectures. For otaining a positive grade at least 51 percent of answers need to be correct. For this option students will have to attend class on a regular basis.
The oral exam will be a presentation of a selection of further readings indicated in every class.
It is reserved to students who will not be able to attend class every week, but are willing to catch up with contents through further readings and to present them in class.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The aim of this class is to provid insights to a selected offer in global history approaches and topics at University of Vienna. It also informs about goals and organization of the two overlaping programs s of Global History and Global Studies -- A European Perspective.
Examination topics
This lecture class is desigend for MA students, and students doing their EC (Erweiterungscurriculum) in related study fields. It gives background information necessary for thoughtful discussion and engagement with the assigned readings. The last 15 minutes of every class will be devoted to discussion with the invited lecturer.
