Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
A historiographic exploration of the vast field of "ritual" (or "performance", or "symbolic communication"). Students will specialize in a sub-theme.
Assessment and permitted materials
Short papers, one first version of the seminar paper, one final version, participation. The seminar paper is a historiographic state of the field on a sub-topic chosen in consultation with the instructor (e.g., ritual and violence, ritual and law, ritual change ...). All papers can be written in French, English, or German. The discussion will be primarily in English, but German is welcome.
