Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will introduce a variety of software tools, foundational skills, and methods used in the Digital Humanities. You will learn how to do academic writing with citation managers, how to use the command line, how to write scripts in Python, how to use version control and collaborate, how to use regular expressions, how to do web scraping and convert your data into structured formats, how to extract information from texts and map it, how to do topic modeling, social network analysis, and how to build a website. In addition to the Python programming language, you will get [re]acquainted with such tool as MS Word, Zotero, Pandoc, markdown, GitHub, wget, QGIS, and Gephi.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment will be based on class participation, timely homework assignments, and a final website project. The homework assignments will include the online tutorials offered by DataCamp (https://www.datacamp.com/) and Codecademy (https://www.codecademy.com/).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

No prior experience is required, only your will to learn.
