Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Via close reading, writing, and discussing, an introduction to medieval Eurasian history. This guided reading is a companion to the lecture course Medieval Eurasia. There are four foci, Western Europe, Central Asia, China, and Japan. The red threads are warrior, clerical, and merchant elites
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment will be by written examination at the end of the course (as usual in Austria, 4 chances to take the exam). Basic readings will be provided for each week of the course via Moodle.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Final exam (online), involves 4 assignments:- Assignment 1 (map quiz) and Assignment 2 (bearing on the readings, 10 short identifications) will be distributed online on the day of the exam and will be timed (15 minutes total).- Assignment 3 involves 2 short essays -- you have the choice of 2 out of 3 essay questions, each question bearing on one of the four sub-ensembles. Assignment 4 is a longer, comparative essay.
This part of the exam is "take-home". The questions will be distributed via Moodle on the day of the exam after completion of assignment 1 and 2. Students will have to upload their typed answers within three days via Moodle (file format mandatory).
