Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
An investigation of the relationship between exegesis and politics in the Middle Ages. Resources for the research include manuscripts or editions in the British Museum, Admont, Klosterneuburg, our Library, microfilms... Most are accessible electronically.
Assessment and permitted materials
Cooperation, a first version of the research seminar paper (on one commentary or parts of one), a final version (due mid-February). One can write the paper in French, German, or English
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
One needs either Latin or Old French. Paleography will help (although there are some edited commentaries, e.g., of Nicolas of Lyra, first half of the 14th c.,and of the Dominican commentary on the Bible, produced ca. 1230/40)
