    Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will deal with fascism, National Socialism and right-wing extremism on a subject-specific and subject-didactic level. In doing so, the subject "History and Civic Education" is to be considered as a whole: Interdisciplinary perspectives and approaches are an integral part of the course.
We will clarify terms, discuss and compare different definitions and approaches to the subject matter, and analyse ideological elements and historical developments of fascism, National Socialism and right-wing extremism. Students will discuss characteristics and current forms of the extreme right and work on case studies. On a didactic level, students will develop possibilities of dealing with selected aspects in the classroom. In addition to didactic principles and the promotion of historical-political competencies, a special focus will be placed on Holocaust education. Challenging teaching situations that can arise in the course of dealing with fascism, National Socialism and right-wing extremism will be reflected upon. Based on these considerations, the students will create and present their own lesson plans and materials, revise them on the basis of feedback and submit them as a final paper. Assignments given during the course of the semester are part of the final portfolio.
