Aims, contents and method of the course

This course offers an introduction into major theories and schools relevant for global history. It will familiarize students with important methodological approaches by means of case studies and closer looks at sub-disciplines such as economic history and labor history. Some of our focus will be on perspectives and critique developed from the Global South, not least to answer global history’s call to overcome Eurocentrism.

Examination topics

All readings are required. This course follows an American tradition insofar as it requires a significant amount of reading. The written final examination will be based on both lectures and readings.
