Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This lecture series will provide an introductory overview of the history of the Near East from the beginning of its Christian era in the fourth century, to the aftermath of the fall of the Armeno-Frankish kingdom of Cilicia in the fourteenth. Students will be introduced to the 'national' historical narratives of Armenia, Georgia, Syria and Byzantium as well as a transnational perspective of these narratives. The lectures will take a comparative approach, focusing on the interaction between these groups and their neighbours.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment will be by closed-book written essay examination at the end of the course.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum passing grade for the exam is 51%. Key readings for the lecture topics will be provided each week in the course Moodle; the exam will be based on the content of the lecture and of these key readings.
