Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This class will provide a thematic introduction in approaches and topics of Global and World History. It consists in an introductory part (3 units) and in lecture series supported by specific literature (texts at moodle). After introductory units on concepts and schools of Global and World History, a selection of Global History topics represented at Vienna university will be discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written examination at the end of the lecture series covering the lectures plus the required reading (25.6.). Participation in debate.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Examination topics

Lecturers count on a certain reciprocity based on active student participation. The book by Vanhaute will provide the main background reading for students. Texts will be provided at Moodle for each session. The reading of these texts before the respective sessions is essential for the understanding of the lectures and the capacity to participate in the discussion.
