Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This MA seminar explores the international history of women's rights since the late nineteenth century with the aim of supporting students to write their own research papers using primary and secondary sources on a related topic of their choice. Themes will include the history of international women's organising, gendered practices of humanitarianism, women's rights and international law, and approaches to 'rights' within a variety of feminist movements. Students will be encouraged to consider a range of historiographical approaches, including social, cultural, political and international history, the history of emotions, sexuality, and the body.
