Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
On the basis of original documents and texts, introductions to the main philosophical and religious systems alongside the respective political systems of the South China Sea region will be provided. The critical assessment of these sources and handling with professional care will be trained and provide valuable insights into the historical development of the region. Likewise different working techniques of the discipline of Global History and Global Studies will be presented and students will be encouraged to apply these in their work with the above-mentioned texts.The course will provide the intellectual tools necessary to tackle scientific questions within the global studies and global history framework. Furthermore competences in working with source material, conducting sound research on a non-European region and objectively assessing political and religious situations will be conveyed.Materials will be provided online via Moodle.intrinsic differences between source materials hailing from different cultural regions (say Europe and Eastern Asia) and different philosophical and religious concepts within the region and the discrepancies to the same concepts between regions. Moreover it will be discussed how also these regional approaches are differentiated within themselves. Students will be required to solve short written assignments based on the materials provided for each course unit. A written exam will be held at the end of the course.
