Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Do not skip sessions; this is not a lecture class. Participation is critically important to progress.
Regular writing (about 9 2-page papers for 90% of the grade, in German, English, or French) and constructive participation in the class discussion (15%) for a total of 105 points. The 105 instead of 100 is meant to reward discussion. Under 51/105 points is a fail (5), 51-62,5 is a 4, 63-74,5 is a 3, 75-87,5 is a 4, 88-105/105 is a 1 (A).

Reading list
The readings posted on Moodle.
I do not recommend using secondary literature (it will not help, to the contrary), but the best English-language textbook is Blockmans and Hoppenbrouwers, https://ebookcentral-proquest-com.uaccess.univie.ac.at/lib/univie/detail.action?docID=1613798

This class complements my survey lecture class (Überblick Mittelalter, taught in the Sommersemester). But this combination is not necessary to get a good grade in this guided reading, and learn from it.
