Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Population movements are driven by a combination of desires and push factors, but also by necessities, obligations, and perceived or real threats. The course will focus on various cases of forced, coercive, punitive, regulated, or government-controlled mobility, such as the slave trade, deportation, internment, the flight of refugees, or forced migrants that characterized the 19th and 20th centuries. Through an examination of current research literature and primary sources, it will aim to explore the different actors, power dynamics, the agency of migrants, and their representations and narratives.
