Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Course (KU) and excursion (EXK) Connecting Vienna (Komlosy/Schmid/Strohmeier) aim at introducing Austrian and international students in a cooperative investigation into Viennas transport infrastructure, focussing on means of connections and communications (railway stations, airport, Danube traffic and harbours). These places will highlight the history of Viennas interaction with the outside world on a regional, a European and a global scale. The course combines perspectives from economic, social and environmental history as well as urban planning and development. The course (KU) aims at preparing the grounds for the excursion (EXK), and the results of the excursion are to be included into the final presentations. Students will work in groups on selected topics and commonly write a paper (5 pages/participant, c. 20 pages in total), connected with the excursion programme. The excursion part consists of 6 half-day excursions with visits of sites of traffic and communication infrastructure, offering possilities to meet experts, managers and workers representatives.
