Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The excursion will lead the students to places of Viennas outstanding role in global history: once a metropolis of an Empire with global reach, Vienna became a shrinking city with only marginal global relevance after 1918. A second era of international significance was based on Austrias Post World War II neutrality and its ability to serve as an international mediator between East and West. With the end of communist regimes in Europe, Vienna became part of global relocation of migration, attracting tourists, labour migrants, and asylum seekers as well as international organisations, and investments of global corporations. The course offers introduction, guided readings, and three excursion days, exploring contrasting images of Global Vienna.
