Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The decline of the European Empires led to the Independence movements in the Americas since the late 18th century and created new states, mostly republics and one successful monarchy. The colonial legacies of Britain, Spain, and Portugal defined the political and cultural landscape of the New World's nation-states. A comparative analysis of three states will confront questions of cultural and political achievements as understood by the three nations themselves, as well as seen by foreign observers from both Europe and the Americas.
